What are the Laws Regarding Students with LD?

Postsecondary institutions receiving federal funds of any kind are obligated to comply with two civil rights laws, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. The legislation is designed to allow “equal participation” and “equal access” by students with disabilities to the institution’s educational experience, i.e. course information, reviews, quizzes, exams, activities and resources. It mandates that ‘reasonable accommodations” be made by colleges and universities to allow students with disabilities to start on a level playing filed with their peers. It does not guarantee that students with disabilities will perform that there potential or as well as their classmates. It does guarantee them the opportunity to try.
