Film Screening: Restrepo

Come out to the Public Lectures Committee and Union Board Film Committee screening of the Academy Award-nominated documentary Restrepo, an intense, yet intimate, study of American soldiers serving in the most dangerous part of Afghanistan, the Korengal Valley. This highly acclaimed film was co-directed by Sebastian Junger, who will be delivering the Reynolds Lecture at Davidson on September 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Duke Family Performance Hall, entitled “The Front Lines of History: 20 Years of Reporting from Around the World.” Mr. Junger is also the best-selling author of The Perfect Storm, A Death in Belmont, Fire, and WAR, and serves as a contributing editor for Vanity Fair and as a contributor to ABC News.

Artist Series: Steep Canyon Rangers Concert

Come out for our free season kickoff event featuring the Steep Canyon Rangers. The Washington Post calls the
m, “One of the most engaging string bands around." The past year has taken the Steep Canyon Rangers to new heights. In March 2011, the band released its first collaborative record with Steve Martin, Rare Bird Alert, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Bluegrass Chart and at #43 on the Billboard Top 200. In 2010, the latest solo record from Steep Canyon Rangers, Deep In The Shade, remained in the Bluegrass Top 10 on Billboard for 18 weeks. While headlining festivals like MerleFest and Bonnaroo alongside Steve Martin for part each year, the Rangers continue to perform alone as a quintet on stages such as Telluride, RockyGrass, and A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor. ‘Tis the season to build your own gingerbread house! Whilst sipping hot cocoa and making ornaments for the tree in the Union. A delectably delightful combination. President Quillen will be on hand to judge the best gingerbread house and give a toast gift card to the winner!
