RegistrationParents may register in the Brown Atrium of the Alvarez College Union on Friday, October 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Saturday, October 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Registration information will include meal and theatre tickets reserved in advance, maps, and any new information about scheduled events. Appointments with ProfessorsThere are many informal opportunities to visit with professors during the weekend. Private conferences may be arranged in advance with professors or advisors. Educational Opportunities for ParentsParents are invited to attend Friday classes with their student, with advance permission from the professor. Parents may attend additional presentations on Friday afternoon, including lectures by Davidson faculty, staff, and students. Join the Davidson College chemistry department for some chemistry fun. The American Chemical Society-Student Affiliates will host a chemistry magic show for one and all! Biology professor Karen Bernd, Ph.D. and student interns demonstrate an innovative program to develop and teach an intensive laboratory intensive course to local high school students. Questions about your son or daughter’s future? If so, join the Director of the Career Services Office, John Adams, for a presentation on making the most of the Career Services Office. Always wondered about the difference between declining balance and bonus bucks, or confused by the various meal plans, or curious about how your son or daughter’s clothes are washed? Join members of the Auxiliary Services staff (CatCard services, bookstore, guest house, and dining services) Patterson Court and Business Services staff for a Q & A session. State of the College AddressPresident Vagt and members of the Principal Executive Staff will discuss issues facing the college today. After brief introductory remarks, President Vagt will entertain questions and comments. Fall ConvocationThe college community comes together to honor our outstanding students and faculty at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 21 in Duke Family Performance Hall in the Knobloch Campus Center. The class of 2007 will march in academic regalia for the first time. Fine Arts EntertainmentThe Davidson College Theatre Department presents its fall production, Tennessee Williams’ sultry and thought-provoking Summer and Smoke. A lonely minister’s daughter is a spinster living in a rural Mississippi town. She finds her only solace in a secret lifelong love for the boy next door, now grown into a handsome ladies’ man.

The Davidson College Symphony Orchestra and the Concert Choir showcase our students in a joint concert in the Davidson College Presbyterian Church Sanctuary at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 20. Admission is free. The Davidson College Jazz Ensemble plays in the Smith 900 Room of the Alvarez College Union on Friday, October 20 at 10:00 p.m. Join us for a relaxing evening of jazz. Admission is free. The Davidson Dance Ensemble joins the Davidson a cappella singers (the Generals, the Delilahs, and Androgeny) in a musical extravaganza on Saturday, October 21 at 4:00 p.m. on Chambers lawn. Van Every/Smith Galleries Weekdays: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; Weekends 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. FORCE OF NATURE: Yuri Shibata and Takasumi Abe The Van Every/Smith Galleries at Davidson College in collaboration with the Halsey Institute of the College of Charleston are partnering with four other local art institutions, for an innovative and experimental exhibition entitled Force of Nature. This collaborative and expansive exhibition includes ten artists from Japan who will be hosted by these institutions. This exhibition explores the relationship between humans and nature through the minds and hands of contemporary artists.

Tickets are $12.00 per person for parents and guests; no additional charge for students on a Vail Commons meal plan. Reservations are required for all parents and students. Wildcat Health ClubJoin us for an early morning workout in the Alvarez College Union’s Nisbet Fitness Center.
