McCall Grant
Overview: Provides
grants to Davidson College students seeking to broaden their cultural,
economic, ethnic or social horizons through study or service true to a
Christian vision. Applicants themselves need not be of a particular
religious affiliation, nor must their project be explicitly religious in
nature. The emphasis is on how the experience will broaden the applicant’s
horizons. Ordinarily, McCall grants are awarded for experiences abroad, but
proposals for domestic experiences will be considered as long as they meet
the criteria indicated above. If students are unsure whether their proposed
project fits with the criteria of this grant program, they are encouraged to
consult with the College Chaplain, who administers the grant.
Amount:
Grants range up to $3000.
Applications/Deadlines: Applications (Word
format | PDF format) are due
the third Friday in March.
Expectations: Grant
recipients must keep a journal during the experience and submit a brief
(four-page) written report to the College Chaplain at its conclusion.
They are also encouraged to meet with the
Chaplain or other college faculty or staff member to discuss goals and, if
appropriate, a reading list prior to beginning their service or study, and
to review the experience after it is completed.
