The
Bonner Community Fund ($4,000 per semester)
Purpose
The Davidson College Bonner Community Fund was established to encourage
the active pursuit of community building by Bonner Scholars and the
student body at large.
Application
Requirements
- Application
Length: 1-2 pages
- Program Description
and Personal Statement
Explain what your project is, the duration, and the number of
individuals you hope to involve in the project. Explain why this
project interests you, what you hope to gain from it, and most
importantly, how the project
will help “build community.”
- Statement of
Goals and Objectives
This aspect of the application may be a continuation of your personal statement. Ensure
that you communicate to the committee why your project is a worthwhile
service activity. How many people will this project affect? Is it a one-time project,
or an ongoing project? The Steering Committee has more interest
in funding new projects than in providing money for projects that have
been established in the past.
- Breakdown of
Estimated Costs
Do your research! The Steering Committee is much more likely to provide
funds if it sees that you have researched costs and can account for
how you plan to use the grant. Keep in mind that the committee cannot
provide funding for any transportation costs. Community Fund grants
can only be used for direct program fees.
- Also keep in
mind that since the committee receives numerous grant applications and
has a limited amount of money to give, it may not be able to fund the
entire cost of your project. Look for alternate sources of money. Try your
local Rotary Club, church, and other organizations that provide funding
for service projects. The committee will more seriously consider your
proposal if you can show that you have made a sincere effort to seek
outside funding.
