Who is eligible?
Students
are eligible to apply for the Bonner Scholar Program if they demonstrate
financial need as evidenced by the Free Application for Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA) and the College Scholarship Service’s PROFILE application.

What
is the timeline?
Application deadline: June 2
Application reviews and phone interviews: June 5 - 16

What
about funds for summer?
$5,000
is available for two required summers of 280-hour, seven-week summer
service placements (which can also carry a salary, such as summer camp
counselor). Each of these two summers include a $1,500 earning stipend
and a $1,000 living stipend in addition to whatever salary the position
pays.
The
student can choose which two summers he/she wants to do the required
service and can use any leftover living stipend plus a $500 bonus for
a third optional summer.
Examples:
Camp Counselor (plus pay)
Intern at a Non-profit Organization (i.e. Housing Coalition)
Summer Swim Coach for a youth team (plus pay)
Working in a garden whose harvests go to the Salvation Army
Working with Aid to Inmate Mothers
Can
I receive Bonner funds in addition to other scholarships?
Yes.
Bonner Money can be used for tuition or other expenses like books.
Can
I study abroad?
Yes.
Completing service hours while abroad is not as easy as at Davidson,
but it can be done. The Bonner Staff will help you and they will be
flexible. When you go abroad you will also receive a study abroad notebook
that will help supplement service hours.
What
are some examples of service opportunities?
Bonners
engage in many different types of service. Some examples are:

IB Middle School as tutor
Free
Clinic of Our Towns as translator, physician’s assistant, or clerk
The
Urban Ministry Center as food bank volunteer, soup kitchen volunteer

Lands Conservancy as stream cleanup volunteer or Board member
What
involvement will I have with other Davidson Bonner scholars?
1st
year students
All first year Bonner Scholars participate in a series
of Monday night dinners.
2nd, 3rd and 4th year students
All upper-class students attend bi-monthly class meetings.
All Bonner Scholars attend fall and spring retreats.
These are on campus, one day retreats during which we plan for the semester
and reconnect.
