Careers for Liberal Arts Majors

What can I do with a Liberal Arts degree?  I'm sure you’ve heard comments like this before:  “There’s absolutely nothing you can do with a B.A. in philosophy except teach.” Ditto for English, Sociology, French, History, and the scores of other majors that fall into the general category of liberal arts.  Many students and their parents wonder what career opportunities await a liberal arts graduate.

The answer, in a nutshell, is “anything you want”.  When students major in their passion, they typically excel.  Being able to articulate the many valuable skills that you gain through your major is key to selling yourself to an employer or graduate school.  Practical experience through student organizations, internships, and campus involvement also help develop useful work-related skills.

Check out The Major Decisions Series offered each spring by the Career Services Office to learn more about each department.
