ALUMNI SERVICE AWARD
Arriving at Davidson from Union, S.C., Harold Perrin Anderson distinguished himself as a leader on campus. He was a member of the basketball team and the Sigma Chi fraternity. His leadership skills and popularity among his peers became ever more apparent when he was elected student body president. He was recognized for his dedication to his studies and extracurricular involvement through his induction into Omicron Delta Kappa and the Phi Beta Kappa society. He graduated cum laude from Davidson with a degree in history.
While pursuing a successful career as president of the family investment firm since 1968, he has dedicated himself to serving his community. He has served on the board of trustees of Presbyterian Hospital and Presbyterian Health Services Corporation since 1978, as vice chairman since 1986, and as chairman since 1991. He has been active in other areas of the community, serving on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board, the board of directors for the Bank of Mecklenburg, the Salvation Army board, the board of directors of Greater Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, the N.C. Highway Commission, and the N.C. Board of Transportation. He also has been president of the Charlotte City Club and chairman of the Charlotte Latin School Board of Trustees.
Despite his commitment to so many good causes in Charlotte, Perrin always found time for Davidson. He volunteered first as an Annual Fund class agent. He has raised funds from corporations and for the Ne Ultra Society. He served as a member of the Alumni Association Board and was elected to the Board of Trustees by his fellow alumni, followed by recruitment for further service as a trustee. During the Campaign for Davidson, he served as a member of the Charlotte Regional Campaign committee. He has served on the Board of Visitors, as a member of his 35th Reunion committee, and currently volunteers as a member of the 45th Reunion committee. Throughout his volunteer service to Davidson, his most avid support has focused on Davidson athletics and the Davidson Athletic Foundation, through his fund-raising efforts, service as board member, and personal interest and support. He shares his alma mater with his older brother, two sons, and a niece.
Because you are a leader in every sense of the word; because you inspire others to your high standard of service; and because you have always responded to alma mater's call with enthusiasm, the Davidson College Alumni Association honors you, Harold Perrin Anderson, with the Alumni Service Award, on the occasion of the Class of 1956's 45th Reunion, April 29, 2000.
