Alumni Service Award:
For the last forty years, Bob Young proudly has been waving the Davidson banner. While a student, he was a Charles A. Dana Scholar, Cadet Commander of the ROTC unit, and house manager of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. His leadership was recognized through his induction into Scabbard and Blade and the Omicron Delta Kappa honor society and his selection for Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities.
Throughout his professional career, Bob has remained devoted to Davidson. As early as 1963, he showed his colors by returning to Davidson as Assistant Dean of Students. After graduating from Emory Law School and settling in his hometown of Atlanta, Bob took every opportunity to interact with Davidson. Bob's involvement with Davidson was never cursory. Whether serving as Atlanta Chapter President, Alumni Association Vice President, team member of the Atlanta chapter of the Davidson Alumni Admissions Program, class secretary, or reunion committee member, Bob explored ways that he could better serve Davidson College and his fellow alumni. His correspondence with alumni directors throughout the years is voluminous, reflecting his passion for an institution he loves and his ongoing support for Davidson's enduring tradition of excellence. Whenever Davidson has beckoned, Bob has responded to its call with unbridled enthusiasm.
Because you have delighted in your service to Davidson and inspire others to do the same; because you have been one of Davidson's staunchest supporters in the Atlanta area; because you entrusted Davidson with the education of your son Martin, Class of 1997; and because Davidson is proud to claim you as its own, the Davidson College Alumni Association is honored to present you, Robert Croft Young, with its Alumni Service Award, on the occasion of the Class of 1961's fortieth reunion.
