Location:  Knobloch Campus Center DFPH-Duke Family Performance Hall

Please join us for a public lecture and cartooning event featuring GB Tran, author/illustrator of the graphic memoir VIETNAMERICA, on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Duke Family Performance Hall.

GB Tran is a Brooklyn cartoonist/illustrator whose graphic memoir VIETNAMERICA details his family’s journey of survival through the Vietnam War and their migration to the United States. Having started as a comics self-publisher, Tran produced VIETNAMERICA as the culmination of years of research and work squeezed in-between his freelance assignments as a commercial illustrator. VIETNAMERICAmerges his desire to understand his family’s legacy of sacrifice with a love for an unique and complex art form. The book was listed by TIME Entertainment among its all-time “Top 10 Graphic Memoirs,” was featured on ABC's World News Now, and was selected as one of the best books of 2011 by Library Journal, Kirkus, and School Library Journal. VIETNAMERICA also earned GB Tran a New York Foundation for the Arts fellowship in nonfiction literature, a gold medal for Sequential Art from the Society of Illustrators, and an Eisner Comic Industry Awards nomination.

For a preview of VIETNAMERICA, additional comics, and his illustration work, visit www.gbtran.com. The lecture is free and open to the public; no tickets are required.
