Imprisoned in Hitler's Europe: Holocaust Survivor Susan Cernyak-Spatz

Susan Cernyak-Spatz, professor emeritus of German Literature at UNC Charlotte and survivor of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi death camp, will speak about her experience. Spatz was born in a middle class Jewish family that fled from Berlin to Prague as they witnessed Hitler’s rise to power. Her father managed to escape, but she and her mother were captured. Her mother died in a Jewish ghetto, and Spatz was sent to a death camp. This event is free.
