Comprehensive Standard 3.4.6 - Policies for determining course credit

The institution employs sound and acceptable practices for determining the amount and level of credit awarded for courses, regardless of format or mode of delivery .

Judgment of Compliance

Davidson College is in compliance with Comprehensive Standard 3.4.6.

Rationale for Judgment of Compliance

Each Davidson course credit is evaluated as equivalent to four semester hours. Responsibility for formulation and implementation of educational program and policy resides in the Faculty. As per the Davidson Constitution, courses are proposed to the faculty Committee on Educational Policy, whose two major responsibilities are 1) establishing curricula, curriculum requirements, and academic standards; and 2) regulating and changing academic departments. The Committee on Educational Policy forwards its recommendations on new course proposals to the faculty, where adoption is decided by a majority vote during a monthly faculty meeting. Membership of the Committee on Educational Policy consists of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty, six teaching members of the Faculty, and a student member. The Registrar is an advisory member of the committee. The Registrar determines transfer credit for satisfactory academic credit at another college or university. Guidelines for transfer credit are outlined in the Academic Regulations.
