Comprehensive Standard 3.4.4 - Awarding credit for transfer courses and professional certification

The institution has a defined and published policy for evaluating, awarding, and accepting credit for transfer, experiential learning, advanced placement, and professional certificates that is consistent with its mission and ensures that course work and learning outcomes are at the collegiate level and comparable to the institution's own degree programs. The institution assumes responsibility for the academic quality of any course work or credit recorded on the institution's transcript.

Judgment of Compliance

Davidson College is in compliance with Comprehensive Standard 3.4.4.

Rationale for Judgment of Compliance

Davidson has a defined and published policy for transfer credits, Advanced Placement and/or International Baccalaureate classes, and other credits students take through joint enrollment programs at other regionally accredited institutions. The policy is established by the Faculty in its academic regulations.  Individual academic departments determine acceptable scores and appropriate equivalencies for AP and IB course credits, and the appropriate department chair determines whether a transfer credit awarded by the Registrar may count toward a major or minor. The Davidson College Catalog states that the Registrar makes all final decisions about transfer credits within the framework of the Faculty’s academic regulations. The General Policy on transfer credits is published in the College Catalog and on the Registrar’s Web site.
