Compliance Certification Report

Comprehensive Standard 3.4.10 - Standards for and publication of program requirements

The institution defines and publishes general education requirements for its undergraduate programs and major program requirements for all its programs. These requirements conform to commonly accepted standards and practices for degree programs.

Judgment of Compliance

Davidson College is in compliance with Comprehensive Standard 3.4.10.

Rationale for Judgment of Compliance

Davidson College has only undergraduate programs. General education requirements are published in the College Catalog; see “Academic Programs and Policies.”  The College also has requirements for each major, minor and concentration, see Catalog, “Course of Instruction by Departments.” 

As seen by comparison with liberal arts colleges in the United States, Davidson College’s core and major/minor requirements conform to commonly accepted standards and practices.  In addition, every seven to eight years each department undergoes an external review.  The reviews assess the strength and weaknesses of each department and make recommendations, when necessary, in suggested changes to each department’s major/minor curriculum.  The reviews are carefully read by the College President, the Vice-President of Academic Affairs, and the department faculty.  When deemed advisable, the recommendations are implemented.
