Core Requirement 2.1 - Degree-Granting Authority

The institution has degree-granting authority from the appropriate government agency or agencies.

Judgment of Compliance

Davidson College is in compliance with Core Requirement 2.1.

Rationale for Judgment of Compliance

Davidson College has degree-granting authority from the State of North Carolina under provisions of the North Carolina General Statutes Section 116-15.  From GS 116-15 subsection (c):

Any institution that has been continuously conducting post-secondary degree activity in the State under the same publicly registered name or series of publicly registered names since July 1, 1972 shall be exempt from the provisions for licensure…upon presentation to the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina of information acceptable to the Board to substantiate such post-secondary degree activity and public registration of the institution’s names.

Confirmation of this status is presented in a letter received by the College President on September 23, 2005 from the University of North Carolina.
