For Immediate Release:

2002 Davidson College Faculty Exhibition with
New Visiting Faculty Member Ray Kleinlein
Friday, August 30 - Wednesday, October 9, 2002

The public is invited to a slide lecture by painter Ray Kleinlein in the Semans Lecture Hall at 7 pm Thursday, August 29 followed by a reception for the artists at 8pm in the Atrium of the Belk Visual Arts Center.

A reception for all the artists will be held on the evening of Wednesday August 29, 2002 from 8 - 9 pm in the Atrium of the Belk Visual Arts Center.

Featured in the Faculty Exhibition will be a recent body of large-scale acrylic works on canvas by Herb Jackson. He is renowned for his dramatic paintings that employ striking colors and intricate textures that act as excavations into the psyche. Hundreds of layers of paint and matter are built-up and stripped away to reveal dynamic abstractions.

Russ Warren continues to explore a variety of charged symbols in a series of paintings from 2002-2003. These lyrical oil paintings combine humor with Warren's unique stylistic approach to create images that are, at once, chaotic and harmonious.

Sculptor Cort Savage, best know for his kinetic sculptures, will debut a new series of bronze sculptures. These new sculptures employ intricate cast bronze and eclectic materials to create a unique sensory experience that deals with physical and metaphysical concepts of the human body.

Ray Kleinlein is our 2002-2004 Visiting Art Faculty member. He holds an MFA from Ohio University and most recently held a faculty position at Longwood College in Farmville, Virginia. Kleinlein's realistic oils transform the most mundane objects such as cardboard boxes and socks into intriguing and mysterious tableaus.
